The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is the fourth book in the series and has a movie covering its story. Disappearance was the last piece of Haruhi media adapted to anime.

The story starts on December 17th when Haruhi announces they will be having a Christmas eve party. On the way home Kyon talks to Taniguchi, his friend who has shown up much throughout the series, and invites him to the party, but he reveals he has a date.

The next day Kyon sees Taniguchi with a cold he claimed to have before and when he asks about his date Taniguchi seems confused.

When he gets to class he sees Ryoko Asakura in harhis seat. Asakura in melancholy was the most popular girl in class who turned out to be an alien who wanted to kill Kyon but was defeated by Nagato. When Kyon asks about Haruhi no one knows who she is.

When Kyon looks through school Koizumi is gone and Asahina wont listen to him. He finds Nagato, who doesn’t recognise, in the literature club.

After finding out where haruhi is, Kyon finds her and Koizumi and proves who he is by telling her he is John Smith from Bamboo leaf rhapsody. Her first thought is to bring the brigade back together.

Haruhi takes Asahina much like in melancholy and they go to the clubroom. When all the members are together, a message from Nagato appears giving Kyon the option to stay or go back.

Kyon admits he finds Haruhis activities fun and goes back. He finds out Nagato is the one who caused this because of her stress from dealing with Haruhi. He goes to stop her but is stabbed by asakura and passes out as a future Kyon arrives with ashine to do the rest.

Kyon wakes up in hospital and is told he fell down the stairs, we see Haruhi stayed with him the entire time. Kyon apologises to Nagato for making her deal with everything. The movie ends with Kyon about to walk into the Christmas party.
